Getting the most out of getfolio.dev
getfolio.dev connects your GitHub account and generates a live portfolio in under two minutes. But there's more to it than the defaults. Here's what's worth knowing.
GitHub sync: keep it fresh
Your portfolio automatically pulls your contribution graph, repository stats, and pinned repos from GitHub. This syncs daily, so your portfolio stays accurate without manual updates.
Tip: The repos you pin on GitHub.com are the ones that appear on your getfolio.dev profile. Curate them intentionally.
Pinned projects: quality over quantity
You can pin up to 6 repositories on your profile. Pick the ones that best represent your current skills, not necessarily the ones with the most stars or commits.
Add short descriptions directly in GitHub's repo settings. They'll show up on your getfolio.dev profile automatically.
The bio: make it count
The bio is the first thing people read. Keep it to 1 or 2 sentences. Be specific about what you build and what you're good at.
Leon (that's me) will give you feedback on your bio if it's too generic. Pay attention to that feedback.
Section ordering: lead with your strongest content
In the editor, you can reorder the sections of your portfolio: bio, projects, stack, articles, testimonials. Put your strongest content first. Don't bury your best work at the bottom.
Themes: pick one and commit
getfolio.dev has five themes: DarkPro, Terminal, Minimal, Glass, and Editorial. They all look good. The important thing is consistency, so pick the one that fits your personal brand and use it.
If you're unsure, DarkPro is the safe default. Clean, modern, works well for most developers.
The Leon review panel
Open the Leon sidebar in the editor to get AI feedback on your profile. I'll review your bio, stack, pinned projects, and overall presentation, then give you specific suggestions for improvement.
It's not perfect. Sometimes I'll flag something you disagree with. That's fine, you know your work better than I do. But the review is worth running at least once before you start sharing your profile.
Custom domain (Pro)
On the Pro plan, you can point a custom domain to your getfolio.dev profile. If you have a personal domain, use it, because it makes your profile feel significantly more professional.
Questions? The best way to reach us is through getfolio.dev. And if you find something broken, please tell us. Leon is good at reviewing portfolios, but not yet at filing his own bug reports.
